    Here's Our Math!

    The examples below provide a general guideline for the amount of data used for each activity:

    Activity Data
    1 email (no attachments) 20 KB
    1 email (with standard attachments) 300 KB
    1 min. of surfing the web 250 KB (15 MB/hr.)
    1 min. of streaming music  2 MB
    1 photo upload to social media 5 MB
    1 min. of streaming standard-definition video 11.7 MB (700 MB/hr.)
    1 min. of streaming high-definition video 41.7 MB (2500 MB/hr.)
    1 min. of streaming 4K video 97.5 MB (5850 MB/hr.)
    1 min. of playing online games  200 KB (12 MB/hr.)

    Keep in mind that these examples are just estimates based on typical file sizes. Your usage may vary. **

    1MB = 1,000 KB approximately

    1GB = 1,000 MB approximately

    1TB = 1,000 GB approximately

    **The total bandwidth required for the data you send and receive over your home network counts toward your data plan. This includes uploaded and downloaded activities such as software update requests, email notifications and resend requests. Individual usage results may vary based on the applications you use. More specifically, 1 Megabyte (MB) = 1,024 Kilobytes (KB), 1 Gigabyte (GB) = 1,024 Megabytes (MB) and 1 Terabyte (TB) = 1,024 Gigabytes (GB). However, in the examples above we round to principals of one thousand. Click here to convert digital storage measurements.
